Matthew Vangjel is starting his third full season with the Fountain City Brass Band this year. Prior to playing with FCBB, Matt played flugel with the James Madison University Brass Band for from 2002-2004. Matt was a back-to-back winner of the High Brass Slow Melody Solo Competition at the NABBA conventions in 2003 and 2004 and placed 3rd in the same competition in 2008.

Matt is finishing his doctoral degree in trumpet performance this year at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He holds Masters degrees in trumpet performance and chamber music from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and a Bachelor of Music Education from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. Matthew is an active performer and teacher in the Kansas City area.
