The Fountain City Brass Band, Kansas City’s award winning British style brass band, will present “On the Shoulders of Giants” on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. in the Bell Cultural Events Center on the campus of MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas. The concert is free of charge, but a minimum donation of $10 per person is requested. All donations are tax-deductible as the Fountain City Brass Band is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Donations are also being accepted at www.fcbb.net. The concert will be a preview of and benefit for the band’s upcoming European tour, a tour which will see the band perform in England, France, Belgium and Holland. Highlights of the tour include representing the United States at the All England International Masters Competition, the EuroBrass Competition and a special performance at the American Normandy Cemetery and Memorial. The band will also present a combined concert with one of the top European brass bands, Brass Band Heist. All proceeds from this concert will go directly towards funding the 2011 European Tour. The Fountain City Brass Band, founded in 2002, is a volunteer musical ensemble based in the greater Kansas City area. The band is committed to a mission of cultural enrichment through the presentation of concerts that are both entertaining and educational. Performing a wide variety of music including opera, jazz, Broadway and modern compositions written especially for brass band, the FCBB seeks to bridge the gap between popular and classical music. Offering casual, audience friendly concerts, the band also actively seeks to initiate cultural revitalization and arts awareness in the local community. The Fountain City Brass Band are currently the top-ranked brass band in the United States, having won four North American titles and three U.S. Open titles since 2007. In November of 2009 the Fountain City Brass Band, became the first American band ever, and the first non-UK band in over fifty years, to win a major brass band competition on UK soil at the Scottish Open Brass Band Championships.
