Alan Wenger is Assistant Professor of Music, and joined the faculty of the CMSU Music Department in 2003 as the studio trumpet teacher. He held prior faculty positions at Amarillo College (Texas) and Midland Lutheran College (Nebraska), and has served on the summer faculty of the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp (Michigan).

A native of Omaha, Nebraska, Dr. Wenger's education includes a Bachelor of Music Degree (1988) in Trumpet Performance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, graduate studies at Boston University, and Master of Music (1995) and Doctor of Musical Arts (2002) Degrees in Trumpet Performance from the University of North Texas. His principal trumpet teachers have included Leonard Candelaria, Dennis Schneider, Rolf Smedvig, and Roger Voisin.

He is Principal Solo Cornet of the Fountain City Brass Band in Kansas City, and is a former member of the Amarillo (Texas) Symphony and Opera orchestras, the Lincoln (Nebraska) Symphony Orchestra and the Nebraska Chamber Orchestra, and has performed with numerous other orchestras, including the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra, the Civic Opera Theater of Kansas City, the Omaha Chamber Orchestra, the Brookline (MA) Symphony, and the Irving (Texas), Richardson (Texas), and San Angelo (Texas) Symphonies. His extensive chamber music experience includes touring with the Empire Brass and Nebraska Brass, Bluebonnet Brass and Kansas Brass Quintet. As a performer on natural trumpet, he has performed with the Texas Baroque Ensemble, the Denton Bach Society, and as a member of the University of North Texas baroque trumpet ensemble in performances in Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, and the U.K. Other experiences include performances with Manheim Steamroller, Lou Rawls, Tommy Tune and the Manhattan Rhythm Kings, and contemporary Christian artist Ken Medema.

Dr. Wenger maintains an active schedule as a soloist and clinician, and is an Artist/Clinician for Edwards Trumpets. He has premiered solo works for trumpet by Texas composers Norman Goad, Gene Murray, and Fisher Tull. His arrangements for brass ensemble have been performed by the Amarillo Symphony, the Arcadian Brass, and the Bluebonnet Brass. He is a member of the International Trumpet Guild, and has performed at the 1995, 1997, 1999, and 2003 conferences as well as being a contributor to the Book Reviews column of the ITG Journal.
